Dr. J.L. Adolph is an accomplished scholar and educator with a Ph.D. in English/African Diaspora Studies from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he completed a dissertation on Fatherhood Narratives in Hip-hop Lyricism in 2018. He also holds an MA from the same institution and a BA in English with a minor in Africana Studiesfrom Central Missouri State University. Dr. Adolph leverages hip-hop culture to educate and empower at-promise youth and families with trauma histories. As an English professor, he employs innovative communication methods to explore urban male parenting in contemporary America. His keynote speeches and the interactive online series DadCypher Edutainment challenge negative perceptions of hip-hop culture and African-American fatherhood. As a media literacy specialist, he empowers marginalized inner-city fathers and works to reshape mainstream narratives of African-American fatherhood. Dr. Adolph creates transformative experiences for educators, helping them guide at-risk students toward healing through hip-hop therapeutic writing. Currently, he teaches at Georgia State University - Perimeter College.
